Around fifty vehicles have been marked with what appears to be human blood in the Germany's city of Hanau in proximity to Frankfurt, according to authorities.
Automobiles, walls and postboxes were marked, occasionally with prohibited symbols, they stated in a release.
Officers report they were alerted in the late hours on Wednesday, when a individual noticed that a car in the Lamboy area of Hanau had been marked with a reddish-hued fluid.
The liquid had been placed in the shape of a Nazi symbol, they added.
Officers then discovered numerous other marked automobiles and building exteriors in the nearby vicinity.
Swastikas are prohibited in Germany under regulations prohibiting the visible presentation of Nazi symbols.
Police say preliminary tests show the substance was likely human bodily fluid.
"Currently there is no lead as to its origin; investigators are presently not informed of any injuries in relation with the incident," they added.
City officials stated they were working "to resolve the case" and have appealed to the residents for details.
A senior political figure stated the vandalism rendered him without words and had to be resolved rapidly.
"This incident hits the very heart of Hanau and reopens the pain of the far-right violent incident five years ago," he wrote on online, recalling the killing of nine people by a gunman focusing on individuals of migrant background in 2020.
